IndyRef2 – New Voting Intentions for the Scottish Daily Mail & Sunday Post

New polling by Survation for the Scottish Daily Mail ahead of a potential second Scottish Independence Referendum shows Scots are split on whether there should be a second referendum and would vote against leaving the UK if there was one.

The polling, of 1,019 Scottish adults aged 16+, showed 43% of Scots would vote Yes and 48% would vote No if the second referendum was held tomorrow, with the remaining 9% saying that they were undecided. Removing these leaves a final Headline Voting Intention of:

Yes – 47%

No – 53%

The findings also showed that Scots were relatively split on whether they support or oppose having a second Independence Referendum before the UK leaves the European Union; 41% of Scots support having a referendum before Brexit, while 46% oppose the prospect.

Further, if Nicola Sturgeon demands that the power to hold a referendum is devolved to Scotland before Brexit, More than a third (36%) of Scots believe that Theresa May should refuse to devolve the power, while an additional 18% believe that the power should be devolved, but only after Brexit.

But while the view of Scottish voters as a whole appear relatively divided, this is not the case among the older age groups, as Survation’s recent poll for the Sunday Post shows.

This poll, of 1,010 Scottish adults aged 60 or over, showed just over a quarter (28%) of the population would vote Yes, while a two-thirds (66%) would vote No. The remaining 7% were undecided, and removing these leaves a final 60+ Voting Intention of:

Yes – 30%

No – 70%

The findings also showed no such split over whether they support or oppose having a second Independence Referendum before the UK leaves the European Union; less than a quarter (23%) of 60+ Scots supported the prospect, compared to 69% who opposed it.

There was also majority support for legislative power to call a second independence referendum remaining with the UK government (58%) compared to it being devolved to Scotland (36%).
