Thameslink, Siemens and Bombardier – What’s Next?

A quick Google News search on our polling in Derby North and South Derbyshire reveals our work looking at the electoral implications of the government’s decision to award preferred bidder status to Siemens for the Thameslink contract was covered to date by an incredible 829 media outlets.  Looking at some selected reporting – as well as the co-sponsor at The Daily Mirror,  interesting analytical coverage came from Mike Smithson at Politicalbetting, from Conservativehome,  Dan Milmo at The Guardian and Labour blogs such as Labourlist.

With the Government Transport Select Committee meeting on Wednesday September 7th  to discuss the bid, are there wider implications to the decision and the execution of the contract beyond Derby?  We have just conducted a detailed analysis of a cross-section of the UK train manufacturing supply-chain looking at just that. We’ll have the results ready for publication on Tuesday,  the findings are very interesting in their scope and their implications for the future of industrial production in the UK.
