The Importance of Grandparents in Childcare – Survation for Grandparents Plus
On 23rd February 2015, Survation for Grandparents Plus interviewed 1046 Great British adults online about their views on parenting and parental leave.
We found that:
- A majority of people (51%) agree that parents should be able to share parental leave with grandparents who are helping with childcare, with one-fifth (20%) disagreeing.
- Over half (58%) of parents would most want a grandparent to care for their children if they or their partner could not.
- A third (33%) of adults would be most likely to turn to their mum if there was a problem in their family, with a tenth (10%) turning to their dad.
- Over a fifth (21%) of parents would pay for childcare if they didn’t have a grandparent to help.
